There have been a few setbacks in tourism, such as the September 11 attacks and terrorist threats to tourist destinations, such as in Bali and several European cities. Some sites have now started to offer dynamic packaging, in which an inclusive price is quoted for a tailor-made package requested by the customer upon impulse. This is facilitated by internet sales of tourist services. There have also been changes in lifestyle, for example some retirement-age people sustain year round tourism. The WHO estimated in 2009 that there are around half a million people on board aircraft at any given time. The developments in technology and transport infrastructure, such as jumbo jets, low-cost airlines, and more accessible airports have made many types of tourism more affordable. For example, some people prefer simple beach vacations, while others want more specialised holidays, quieter resorts, family-oriented holidays, or niche market-targeted destination hotels. Tourists have a wide range of budgets and tastes, and a wide variety of resorts and hotels have developed to cater for them. There has been an up-trend in tourism over the last few decades, especially in Europe, where international travel for short breaks is common. In the United States, the first seaside resorts in the European style were at Atlantic City, New Jersey and Long Island, New York. In Continental Europe, early seaside resorts include: Heiligendamm, founded in 1793 at the Baltic Sea, being the first seaside resort Ostend, popularised by the people of Brussels Boulogne-sur-Mer and Deauville for the Parisians Taormina in Sicily. Very cool hope this functionality gets added to the stand-alone version of Google Earth soon.Mass tourism developed with improvements in technology, which allowed the transport of large numbers of people in a short period of time to places of leisure interest, so that greater numbers of people could begin to enjoy the benefits of leisure time. No menus on the top bar, but right-clicking in the top half of the program window brings up an options menu, with some keyboard shortcuts: Top-down views work very well, but it can be more difficult sometimes with oblique views to get the red and blue images to line up at all the viewing depths.įor areas with available 3D building models, the buildings are rendered in 3D as well, which can give impressive results: You can fine-tune the anaglyph image separation by clicking and dragging left or right in the top image, aligning the red-blue pair so that they match up when viewed through the red-blue glasses. Or, with the mouse cursor in the top half of the program window, click on “S” to bring up a search window that lets you zoom to a desired location, like the Grand Canyon: Moving the mouse cursor to either bottom view, you can then use standard Google Earth plugin keyboard/mouse commands to zoom to your desired location. The bottom two views are Google Earth plugins showing the left and right view the top view is the blended anaglyph. Open up the app, and you’ll see three globe views: Horst Blaesig pointed me to a stand-alone app called Stereo GE Browser that goes one step further – it also can create a 3D anaglyph, a blending of the two views that can be seen in 3D using standard red-blue 3D glasses. By crossing your eyes sufficiently to get the two images to blend together, you get a 3D view, possibly accompanied by a headache.
